Where tourism has failed, trade, transport, services and local tax revenues have collapsed
“A new course with incisive measures and strong signals addressed to the main economic sectors of the country, starting from tourism. It is time that the development and the strategic vision of the sector are placed under the direction of a dedicated ministry or, while waiting for tourism to become a matter of concurrent State-Regions competence, to a strong and well-structured department at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Other solutions are only a palliative”.
This is the position that the president of Confturismo-Confcommercio Luca Patané.
“In the pandemic crisis – continues Patanè – the centrality of our sector has become evident: where tourism has failed, transactions in commerce, transport, all types of services, even the revenue from local taxes have collapsed. So why continue to confine it as a component of other sectors?”.
“The experiences gained in these steps – concludes the president of Confturismo Confcommercio – have all been important and positive, but the transversality of tourism does not end in the field of culture or agriculture or others. We represent 13% of Gdp, including indirect and induced, and we employ 15% of the workforce, we contribute 44 billion to the Italian trade balance and record a production value of 190 billion, with the most directly related components”.
