This is the proposal of the Modello Sorrento presented during the Stati Generali del Turismo (Tourism General States) promoted by the Sorrento Municipality under the patronage of Enit and the Campania Region and organised by VisVerbi.
Luxembourg, United Kingdom and Bahrain are the countries most interested in holidays in our country. Tourism in the top ten most discussed topics on social media
Innovation, health safety and sustainability were the topics discussed by Tourism Minister Massimo Garavaglia, Campania Region President Vincenzo De Luca, Sorrento Mayor Massimo Coppola, Procida Mayor Raimondo Ambrosino and Enit President Giorgio Palmucci.
“For the southern regions, tourism is fundamental and is the first sector that will restart as soon as the conditions are right,” explained Tourism Minister Garavaglia. “We need to get organised for the summer season that is just around the corner and give continuity to a sector that must not be stopped. Vaccines can be a solution to guarantee maximum safety for tourists, both Italian and foreign, who intend to spend their holidays in our country“.
The minister emphasised the importance of investing in “improving facilities, focusing on energy efficiency and exploiting the digital revolution underway by creating a digital ecosystem that brings together all those involved in this great sector, pushing the brand Italy“.
“In the pre-Covid era Sorrento could boast of more than 3 million presences a year,” emphasised Mayor Massimo Coppola. “More than 2.8 million were foreigners, mostly from the United Kingdom and the United States. We need to get these people to think of Italy and our land again as a welcoming and safe place, but to do this we need a collegial strategy that involves the entire tourism sector and all institutional levels, and give life to a cutting-edge smart tourism”.
Among the first citizen’s proposals are “an effective tracking model that provides for inbound and outbound swabs for tourists. In the vaccination campaign, priority should also be given to tour operators“.
The General States are the start of a process that will bring together all the categories in the sector, including hoteliers, restaurateurs and tourist guides, and will end in May with the presentation of an operational plan to be shared at national level.
During the meeting, the results of the research conducted through Human, a web and social listening platform created by Italian developers with an Italian algorithm, were presented. Throughout February, it analysed 453 thousand words extracted from more than 4 thousand posts and related comments on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to define the sentiment of social networks towards the topic of tourism.
