La Thuile has approved the construction of a new bivouac at an altitude of 3,360 metres, designed by Progetto Cmr and dedicated to mountaineer Edoardo Camardella.
“I knew him well – explains Massimo Roj, managing director of the design company – and I shared his passion for the mountains and skiing. Being able to donate this project to the municipality of La Thuile, which will be realised thanks to the commitment of Edoardo’s parents, is for me an act due to the memory of a special boy”.
The guides have indicated a strategic point for mountaineers. The Tour du Rutor, a major ski mountaineering competition involving both national and international athletes, passes through the area every two years.
While waiting for the bivouac – already engineered and under construction – to be set up at high altitude, the possibility of placing it in the centre of La Thuile is being considered, at the beginning of December, so that it can be visited while waiting for the final installation. When all the components of the new construction are completed, the assembly phase can be carried out in a few days. The structure is designed to be easily transported by helicopter and assembled.
The new bivouac on the Ruitor glacier will have a large glass wall looking towards Mont Blanc. It will also be possible to admire it through a 360 degree webcam mounted on the newly built weather station, the highest in the Graian Alps and one of the highest in Europe.
