Autumn in Klausen is the fifth season: a riot of colours, pleasant temperatures, and rustic delicacies in the cellar and on the table invite you to slow down, go hiking or cycling, and recharge your batteries in the most beautiful spas. A perfect season for pleasant walks at high altitudes or in the valley, on the chestnut or mountain pine trail. The village of Chiusa, in autumn, presents itself in all its beauty and is a privileged destination, easy to reach, where to enjoy this season of great contrasts in the best way.
Also known as the “bread of the poor”, the chestnut is a foodstuff rich in nutrients, so much so that, until a few decades ago, it represented the winter food staple of the mountain people.
It is also known as the “San Martino summer“, the period after the first cold, characterised by mild temperatures and good weather, and lasts until 7 November… It is a period of pleasure and merriment in Chiusa, in harmony with what Carducci wrote in his poem San Martino: “But through the streets of the village, from the boiling of the vats, goes the sour smell of wine, the souls to cheer.”
Il sentiero del castagno
Countless chestnut trees along this hiking trail, which is particularly popular in autumn, have given it the appropriate name Il sentiero del castagno, The Chestnut Trail. An easy hike under a canopy of colourful leaves and then stop at one of the farms along the way, where you can enjoy traditional local delicacies in rustic “Stuben“. This trail is also perfect for those who enjoy Nordic walking.
