With over 130,000 accommodations available on Airbnb where pets are welcome, Italy is the country in Europe with the highest percentage of pet-friendly homes. This is an important fact for the 3.5 million Italians who have adopted a pet in the last year and who will have to plan their first holiday in the company of their four-legged friends. The pet-boom is also confirmed by Airbnb data: searches for pet-friendly accommodation have increased by 65% in recent months worldwide. Airbnb has therefore analysed the market for pet-friendly accommodation. Here are a few Italian suggestions together with advice from veterinarian Dr. Kate Bruce on how to prepare for the summer. |

Everyone on the beach, but watch out for salt and sand
“If your pets love the Mediterranean climate, this house close to the beach is perfect. After a day at the beach, remember to give your dog a good bath, as the salt could encourage the development of infections”.
Where: La Salentina, Tricase, Apulia
Sharpen your eyesight
“For those who want to relax in a healthy way, this tree house is ideal for resting and enjoying life together among the trees, but also for observing all the movements of nature from above. Dogs, in particular, love visual stimulation”.
Where: Splendida Casa sull’Albero, Florence, Tuscany
Vaccinations and medications at your fingertips
“Houses with an enclosed courtyard are ideal for playing with your pet. However, if you choose accommodation in contact with nature, such as this one in the Apulian countryside, it is always a good idea to vaccinate your pet and take the necessary medication with you.”
Where: I Sette Coni, Ostuni, Apulia
Casa dolce casa
“If you choose homes with outdoor spaces like this trulli complex on the outskirts of Ostuni, be sure to bring your pet’s favourite dog bed and something familiar that smells like home, especially on your first few trips”.
Where: Trullo del 1800, Cisternino, Apulia
