From 28 March, Ego Airways will fly from Catania to destinations in Florence, Forlì and Parma. This will be the first stage in the development of the new carrier, which hopes to intercept international tourist flows in the future.
The airline is a start-up with completely Italian capital, promoted by entrepreneurs with many years of experience in the aviation sector.
From 28 March flights will depart from Fontanarossa airport
Ego Airways has established a hub for its aircraft at Catania Fontanarossa airport and, in the future, intends to transport tourists from Milan Malpensa airport to the most attractive locations in Italy, including Sicily and the Etna metropolitan area.
The mayor of Catania, Salvo Pogliese, encouraged the development of the tourist initiative, which will also promote typical local products, in line with the objectives of the airline Ego Airways, and called for synergies with the island’s businesses to support the relaunch of tourism in Sicily, which has been severely affected by the health emergency.
The major also pointed out that the Municipality has recently developed incentives and support for visitor flows, in accordance with transparent regulations on reimbursement of expenses for national and international sports activities, school tourism and congresses, which were presented at the Bit in Milan last year, before the Covid emergency, and were widely appreciated by the tourism operators.
For his part, Regional Councillor Manlio Messina highlighted the Regione Siciliana (Sicilian Region) great commitment to encouraging the return of tourist flows, with concrete support for travellers who will choose the island as their holiday destination in the coming months.
